The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.
John Muir

Most of these images were taken over the last few years, in the forests near where I live on Whidbey Island. There are two main ideas I have pursued in making this series. First, I have tried to convey my deep appreciation for these forests which are places of inspiration, healing and refuge for me. Also, I wanted to capture the sense of magic, mystery, and awe I feel when I'm in the forest. I can only imagine how much more this would have been true in the older forests that are no long with us, and which we can now know only know by their remnants.

About the making of these images: Though digital photography offers us endless ways in which to alter and change images, I have chosen a more limited "palette" for these images, working primarily with color, tone, and contrast. In this respect, the images remain true to how they were taken with camera and lens, and to what I was seeing during my forest walks.

I have titled this series forest walk. I hope you enjoy these images and that they convey some of the mystery and magic of the places where they were taken.
